ANSWERS TO FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS Re: State Boards of Nursing Requirements & This Program:

Is the Company Licensed?: PICC Resource Associates, LLC is a Connecticut-based Nursing & Healthcare Professional Continuing Education Company. PICC Resource Associates, LLC as a company has been approved to operate and run education programs as a business by the state of Connecticut. The state of Conneceticut does not license continuing education companies, it grants approvals. We're a vetted and well-established company; PICC Resource Associates, LLC has operated IV-related continuing education training in the state of Connecticut since 2003.

Does the Program Meet My State's Nursing IV Therapy Education Requirements?: We have done our best to ensure that this program meets national evidence-based practice and, therefore most states' requirements for IV therapy training. However, Board of Nursing education requirements vary from state to state and we have confirmed that this program meets the requirements of both the Connecticut and our neighboring state, Massachusett's Board of Nursing requirements for IV Therapy continuing education. We will add to the list in the future. For now, if your state is not in the list, check with your board of nursing prior to sign up to ensure the program meets the education requirements for your state. Click here for our program outline for education content covered in the program.

What Does the Term Continuing Education Mean?: Continuing education, is education provided to professionals beyond the initial education for their profession. For example, for nurses it is ongoing training post nursing school. Post nursing school, approved continuing education providers offer continuing education credits in the form of Continuing Nursed Education or CNEs, also known as Contact Hours) which are used to validate education with employers, and for nursing specialties.

Are the Continuing Education Credits Granted Valid In My State?: The short answer is in general yes. As long as the course content is accepted, the CNE credits are accepted nationally. Nursing continuing education companies programs are approved by state boards of nursing, and/or by national certifying boards such as the American Nursing Credentialing Center (ANCC). The contact hours earned are are not restricted to one state, and are generally transferable. In fact obtaining credits from or gaining approval by various nursing boards outside of one's state is quite common. This means for example that nurse attendees to a program in New York may earn CNE contact hours from a provider approved by the California Board of Nursing and the CNEs earned are valid for submission of proof of continuing education to the New York Board of Nursing.

What qualifies PICC Resource to Run The Program?: The program developer and instructors are nationally board certified IV therapy and vascular access specialists by the credentialing organizations of the Infusion Nurses Society (INS) and the Association for Vascular Access (AVA). The program has been designed using the INS Standards of Practice which are the natiional standards of best practices in infusion therapy procedures and care in the United States. Additionaly the program is based on AVA guidelines for vascular access, Center for Disease Control (CDC) guidelines, national infectious disease organizations guidelines, and Joint Commission accreditation recommendations.
